The current Covid- lockdown is challenging for all of us.

We might have been more optimistic during the first lockdown; we survived the second one as well. However, when the third lockdown was announced in the UK — without an end date insight — a lot of us struggled.

We managed to live with Covid and restrictions during the summer months- at least we had time to enjoy the short British summer. We did spend time outside and went for long walks.

Nevertheless, winter in the UK had always been challenging for our mental health. Instead of a romantic winter wonderland, with blue sky and snow — the English weather shows us all shades of grey, endless rain, and daylight which disappears at 3 in the afternoon.

Luckily, there are a lot of products on the market which can help us to fight the winter blues and lift our mood.

Time for books

This too shall pass is a wonderful book and a must-have for everyone struggling during the pandemic.

The author, Julia Samuel, is a British psychotherapist. She has over thirty years of experience and worked for the NHS and in her private practice.

J. Samuel explores how we can navigate, adapt during unpredictable times of crisis. This book is a wonderful celebration of the strength of the spirit in all of us.

Find your inner artist

In an interview, John Lennon once said: “Every child is an artist until he’s told he’s not an artist” and we can all agree.

Think back how much joy you had as a child, trying out new things, discovering your talents and feeling fabulous when your masterpiece was finally finished.

The time of your life before you looked on youtube and were bombarded with videos from genius talents and professional artists which let 99 % of the normal population look as if we can’t even hold a pen.

Brush off your self-doubt.

Hey, it’s lockdown — even if it goes wrong, no one will see it anyway.

During the winter months, we generally do not get enough sunlight and lockdown did not improve the situation — SAD lamps offer an easy and cheap solution.

Even though we don’t have to leave the house and it doesn’t matter how we look — self-care is important.

Lockdown does not have to mean we abolish any form of pampering ourselves — the way we treat our bodies has a huge impact on our mental health.

Talking some time to relax and treat yourself with a nice bath and body lotion can change the mood of the day.
